HPCCA History

Our organization began in 1934, making it one of the oldest Community Concert organizations in the country!  We are quite proud of our heritage and owe a deep debt of gratitude to our community for the generous support afforded to the HPCCA, both in funding and in attendance.

In the earliest years of the HPCCA, our city was coming out of the Great Recession and our town became known as the furniture and textile capital of the world.  Interested community members saw the need and opportunity to provide local live music performances.  They successfully brought some of the best classical performers to High Point.

Over the past eighty-plus years, the HPCCA has hosted an astounding array of artists such as:  large symphony orchestras, note-worthy pianists and instrumentalists, vocal artists ranging from Metropolitan Opera singers to the Welsh Men’s Chorus, splashy ‘big band’ ensembles, and world-class names such as Van Cliburn and the Vienna Boys’ Choir..

For many years, our concerts were held in the old auditorium at High Point University (formally High Point College).  When the High Point Theatre opened its doors in downtown High Point, it became the venue for HPCCA concerts.  The organization continued to sell-out performances up through the 1970’s.  This was the golden era for the organization – with waitlists for season tickets! We welcome you to continue in the great tradition of supporting the arts in our town through HPCCA!

  • Loss of electricity/heat or dangerous conditions (i.e. severe ice limiting access to parking lot) at concert venue.

In the event that a concert must be cancelled:

  • HPCCA will send notification via email to our contact list.  Please join our mailing list by visiting our contact form, or emailing us at [email protected].

  • HPCCA will post a message on our website home page, our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/HighPointConcerts/, and Instagram.

  • If a cancelled concert can be rescheduled, HPCCA will make this information available on our webpage, email, and social media sites.

  • HPCCA cannot offer refunds for cancelled concerts. If a cancelled concert cannot be rescheduled, HPCCA will honor the purchased tickets at a future concert.
